Monday, August 26th, 02002

Back from New Mexico Friday night. On vacation this week. First I gotta finish work paperwork, etc. Then, I'm not going to do anything.

American Advantage Platinum

Monday, August 19th, 02002

In Los Alamos. As of this morning, I'm American Advantage Platinum: Woop-de-frickin-do.

You know that guy I sat next to on DSM->DFW and then DFW->DSM last week.. I sat next to him again this morning.

Back from a week at Los Alamos around midnight last night. I go back for a final week on Monday. I hope to get a hotel room in Los Alamos instead of Santa Fe, now that the summer interns will have mostly left the lab.

Flying out of Des Moines is getting weird: Saw Bill Boswell (former EAI now e-markets) last night waiting to pickup luggage in the DSM terminal. I sat next to the same people on DSM->DFW on Monday and DFW->DSM on Friday. Last week, when I was coming back from the bathroom on DSM->DFW, I heard a "Matt!". Turing around, I see my accountant. Later that week waiting to get on DFW->DSM, I see a couple that looks familiar. A few minutes later, I realize that they are the people that just moved out of the duplex directly to the north of my house... my neighbors. Then, they are seated directly across from me. A whole lot of strange coincidences.

Because I most always park in the same location at the DSM airport, I think my mind has optimized out the practice of remembering where I parked. Last night I realized that I didn't remember anything related to parking my car Monday morning. Nothing. Nichts. Kind of scary. I wonder what happens when I have to park in a different part/level of the parking garage?

Assuming I get the Los Alamos project done next week, I'm taking a week of vacation the following week. It seems like I've been on the road for a year straight. I know it's been more than two months. I'll probably do a lot of reading and sleeping. This amount of travel is not good for a person. I feel it.

Seems we've had a whole lot of rain in Ames during my absense last week. The grass was the longest it's been all season, before I mowed it today.

IBM is being difficult about xCAT.

Most of the details for the Germany trip with Mike are set. 10/18 - 10/26. I'll post them soon.

Perhaps I'll finish reading Endymion tonight. Must get through it before Rise of Endymion. This Hyperion cantos stuff is first rate, despite the endless chase of #3. Paperwork tomorrow.

blah.

MP3s

Sunday, August 11th, 02002

The mp3 collection now stands at ~1282 CDs, 14977 tracks, and 87 GB. Should have a DLT drive next week, so I can backup more easily.

LaLaLA

Back from New Mexico late Friday evening for two day's rest and paperwork (and laundry and lawn mowing (the lawn looks really good BTW)). All my group at IBM is going to
LinuxWorld on Monday. I'm going back to Los Alamos instead. I'd rather go to SC2002 or The Third LCI International Conference on Linux Clusters: The HPC Revolution 2002 anyways.

Dave Egan has been working on my house (trim on the library step, new concrete on the foundation, and a new faucet in the kitchen):

Ryan O'Rourke is moving in to the house sometime this month. Yes Beef, this is all about world domination.

The PS/2 keyboard connector doesn't work on my new workstation anymore. suckage. I'll have to get the motherboard replaced.

Spenser is without a job (by choice) and wondering the west coast's wilderness... or something like that. Spenser, send me an email and tell me what you're doing.

I'm very tired.

Now, I suppose I should get to that paperwork...

In Santa Fe / Los Alamos

Thursday, August 1st, 02002

In my Santa Fe Hotel room.

Spent the last three days at Los Alamos. Waiting on parts before I return on Monday. Going sightseeing and to Taos this weekend.
