Looking for a house

Saturday, April 24th, 02004

My lease is up this month, so I gotta find a place to live. I was going to buy a house in the east mountains, but I've determined that to be too much hassle for me right now. Perhaps rural living in five years, but it's inside of Albuquerque proper for the time being.

Stuff I like:
o Natural-looking established landscape
o A yard
o Established neighborhood
o Wood floors
o Tile floors
o Built-in bookshelves
o Windows - lots of light.
o Skylight
o Sun Room
o Funky, Modern (not new)
o Close to Sandia National Labs (~20 minutes with traffic)
o North East, Ridgecrest, or Nob Hill
o Safe, Low-crime
o 1,400 - 2,000ish Sq.Ft.
o Close to parks, walking trails, etc.

Stuff I hate:
o Houses that all look the same, many in a row with little space between
o Brand new development with no mature trees, etc.
o Mediterranean style... very light colored stucco, pink tile roofs, etc.
o "Country" style kitchens

I looked in the MLS system two days ago and came up with the following list
of possibilities:

What do you think?

Socks

Tuesday, April 20th, 02004

smartwoool

Smartwool's new "Adrenaline" is the finest sock ever created by man. I have a single pair that I've been wearing continously for three days in a row. A fourth day is forcast for tomorrow. I feel like a new person wearing these socks. I'm serious. Six more pair are on order tonight from The Sock Company.

Astrophotography's just what I needed to stumble across...

Luminous Heavens

Astronmical & Nightscape Photography by Chris Cook

I also found a place to buy a print of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field image.

Pano Head

really right stuff pano setup

My new pano head setup. It might enable me to do this.

I've been geeking out on this stuff a lot as of late:

Ultra-High Resolution Digital Mosaics
hugin - Panorama Tools GUI
Big Ben's Panorama Tutorials
Lens calibration with Panorama Tools
Links to panorama tutorials and resources
Enblend
panoramas.dk
Building 360 degree Panoramas - Using the Canon 10D and Sigma 8mm, A Tutorial and Work-Flow study
Finding the nodal point
A solution to definitively locate that nodal (pivot) point
BLENDING SEAMS IN STITCHED PANORAMAS - PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL
Lens Calculator
Case Study: Review of VR Pan Heads
PTLens - automatically corrects for lens pincushion and barrel distortion
Contrast blending
autopano-sift
DeFishing

Now I have to actually go out and make it happen.

I did roll up highway 4 last weekend to take in the Jemez Mountains and Valles Caldera. There was far too much rain and snow for photography though.

I shall dwell in this land.
