NMOSUG Talk on Ruby

Monday, October 17th, 02005

I'll be giving a talk at the November 9th New Mexico Open Source Users Group meeing on Ruby, including a whirlwind tour of Ruby on Rails.

Wednesday, November 9, 2005 6:30 PM at SWCP.

Those interested in learning what's behind all the recent Ruby buzz and those who are generally interested in dynamic scripting languages and web development frameworks, should find it an interesting talk.

More information (including directions) can be found on the NMOSUG meetings Wiki page.

I'll try and post slides a few days before the meeting.

Paragliding

People were paragliding from the Sandia foothills in front of my house the other day. Looked crazy, but a lot of fun:

Craig Visits New Mexico for Elk Hunt

Monday, October 17th, 02005

My brother and his girlfriend came to New Mexico from Minnesota for a visit, and Craig and I went Elk hunting in the Gila Wilderness. We weren't able to slay one of the beasts, but we had a great time trying. We'll probably do it again next year:

If anything, I’ve definitely been inspired to spend some more time in the Gila wilderness.

An Interesting Dinner

Tuesday, October 11th, 02005

I had dinner in Santa Fe this evening with Andy Bechtolsheim and two local Sun representatives. There was a bit of conversation about the beautiful New Mexico scenery (which was great this evening with snow on the Sangre de Christos), but we mostly talked Linux clusters.

As you can imagine, this was quite an interesting experience. Andy brings another level of tenacious exploration to the problems he’s interested in solving, and one can’t help but be inspired, after experiencing this in person.
