Berta is wearing a yellow nylon seeksucker dress made by Letha Rau in the spring of 1952. Berta wore this dress for her first grade spring play. She was a yellow butterfly with lavender wings! The dogs, Beans and Timmie, are Lena's special friends.

During WWII, Walt hid the bell under the grain in the grainery so that it would not have to been given up during a metals drive. Louis Born, brother of Paul Born had been ?coal tender on the train.
