John Frederick (Von) Born Born 12-3-1837 in Petznich, Pommern, Preusen, Germany  Came to America in 1856 to avoid German military service
Settled in Farmington, Jefferson County, Wisconsin  Married Augusta Charlotaa Raasch in 1860  In 1887 went to the Dakota terrtory with eldest son, William and homestead two quartes of land on the Homestead Plan.

Carl Ludwig Rau's Farm located just north and east of railroad station which came be know as Rauville in the early 1890's. Carl Ludwig is on far right. Otto Rau is third from left with coal shovel.  Second from left is Ernest Guenther, husband of Emma Rau, acting as Engineer.  To the far left is Emma Rau Guenther. Codington County, Watertown, SD.  The farm was homesteaded and the lumber for the buildings was hauled from the "Red Banks" located by Milbank, SD
